Alkemy Terrain Board – Part Two

I’ve made a little bit of progress on the board this week.

Roughed in the waterfall, and the surrounding hills with some 1″ Owens Corning foam board, hot glued to the surface.

Carved a piece of foam with the hot knife, for the cave at the edge of the island.

I’ve been trying out some various locations for stairs onto the stepped sections, using plaster cast in a Hirst mold.

Steps left to complete:

Carving sandstone
Additional contouring
Giving the cave some definition
Add texture elements

We have so many miniature games right now, and no game tables to play them on. Some games we have too few minis to really have a full on war game going. Others, we have plenty of mini’s but no appropriate terrain/gaming boards. It’s time to remedy this situation.

Recently we’ve built some individual terrain pieces, the wire form tree, the hill, I have even been tossing around ideas for themed boards.

Terrain – 15 steps to a Wireform Tree

You can make deciduous trees out of wire.
Materials needed:

20-24 gauge wire ( really any wire, even 12 or 14 gauge would be fine for massive trees )
small wire cutters
two sets of pliers (needle nose are ideal)
a spark plug/deep well socket

I would suggest making a practice tree as your first tree. It needs to be big enough that you can clearly see what you are doing,and provide the opportunity to get familiar with the steps involved.
