Dip Shading

Eldessa & Lurien take a Dip

Here are the results of my maiden voyage using The Army Painter’s Quick Shade in Strong Tone.   You may remember Eldessa from Miniature Painting – Project 5, and Lurien from Miniature Painting – Project 1 if you want to take a look at some of the original photos.  Lurien did in fact go through a make over after that article was completed, my first attempt at painting her didn’t go quite as planned, but the over all color scheme is the same.

I am starting on the Splintered Light, Druid’s Children - The Faithful Box Set today.

The first three I decided to go with white Krylon for the primer, the rest will be done in black.

Since I have 20 in this set, I plan to break them up into several phases to complete the whole set.

Phase 1 Primered

Paints selected for the Hares were Vallejo Model Colors:

  • 70993 White Grey
  • 521 Metal Medium
  • 70926 Red
  • 70950 Black
  • 70981 Orange Brown
  • 70876 Brown Sand

This week (on 8/11) I painted  a female warrior mini.  Not sure on the sculptor, but was made by Ral Partha for TSR Mfg.’s AD&D line (1988).

Vallejo Model Colors chosen:

  • 70927 Dark Flesh
  • 70951 White
  • 70872 Chocolate Brown
  • 70997 Silver
  • 70926 Red
  • 70999 Copper

Step One:  Mixed five drops 70927 Dark Flesh, three drops 70951 White, two drops of water, and painted all exposed skin.  Took three layers to cover the black primer.

Step Two: Mixed five drops of 70872 Chocolate Brown, three drops 70927 Dark Flesh, two drops of water, and painted her boots & scabbard.

While I am not sure I’ll have a new project  to show you on this weekend (I’m having fun for my birthday – YaY me), I do have some new mini projects in the works.  I also want to introduce you to  a new category called “Miniature Assembly” which I will be expanding hopefully in the near future.
